About this Small Flowering Jaboticaba Bonsai, 10 Years Old (Plinia cauliflora)
The Jaboticaba, said as five syllables exactly as it is spelled, comes from southern Brazil and belongs to the myrtle family alongside its relative the guava. The epithet cauliflora describes an unusual habit: flowers and fruit are borne directly on the trunk and the older branches rather than at the shoot tips, and in season the bark is studded with clusters of small white flowers. This example is 10 years old and 12 to 13 inches tall, grown as an indoor tree. Warmth, humidity and soil kept evenly moist suit it well.
