About this Flowering Sweet Plum Double Arch Planting Bonsai, 19 Years Old (Sageretia theezans)

Two Sageretia theezans, each 17 to 19 years old, arranged as a two-tree arch planting measuring 11 by 19 inches and 15 inches tall. Sweet plum is a tropical evergreen from China with leaves under 3/4", faintly veined and close to bronze as they open. The bark sheds in patches, leaving a mottled, multi-colored trunk that suggests considerable age. Pink-white flowers appear in spring, followed by small black fruits through summer and into autumn. It has long been a popular choice for indoor culture.

Sageretia / Sweet Plum bonsai care

This is a living Sageretia / Sweet Plum (Sageretia thea). Before you buy, this is what it will ask of you:

Indoor / outdoor
Indoor bonsai — can summer outdoors in a semi-shaded spot, kept indoors roughly Sept–May
Light
Bright light; a south/west window with protection from intense direct sun
Water
Keep the rootball moist — lean wet. Never let it dry out, but never waterlogged either
USDA zones
Roughly 9–11 (tender; grown indoors over winter in most of North America/Europe)
#1 cause of death
Drying out — leaves and twigs desiccate fast and the whole tree can die quickly; also over-watering/root issues

Soil, repotting, pruning, seasonal work and the full pest and disease list are in our free Sageretia / Sweet Plum bonsai care guide.
