About this Small Flowering Podocarpus "curved" Bonsai, 12 Years Old (Podocarpus macrophyllus)
Podocarpus macrophyllus answers to both Buddhist Pine and Chinese Yew. It makes a dense evergreen, the leaves pointed, leathery and dark green, held on stiff branches that arrange themselves with noticeable symmetry. Plants are unisexual, males bearing their flowers in cones while female flowers are composed of thickened cylindrical scales, followed by fleshy, brightly coloured fruit that is often edible. This one has been worked for 12 years into a curved trunk line and stands 14 to 15 inches. Grown indoors, it tolerates a range of positions and dislikes standing wet at the root.
