About this Medium Flowering Podocarpus "curved" Bonsai, 16 Years Old (Podocarpus macrophyllus)
16 years old and 14 to 15 inches tall, this Podocarpus macrophyllus has been trained in a curved style. Known also as Buddhist Pine and Chinese Yew, it is a dense evergreen carrying dark green leaves, leathery and sharply pointed, along stiff branches that arrange themselves with unusual symmetry. The species is unisexual: male flowers take the form of cones, while the female structures are built from thickened cylindrical scales. The fruit that follows is fleshy, borne on a stalk, brightly coloured and often edible. A durable subject for growing indoors.
