About this Medium Flowering Parrot's Beak Bonsai, 8 Years Old (Gmelina philippensis)
Gmelina philippensis, the G silent in speech, at 8 years old and 10 to 11 inches in height. Leaf shape is not consistent on this species: some are plain ovals, others take an ivy or duck-foot outline. Flowering happens occasionally rather than reliably, and when it does the yellow blooms emerge from the end of a tube built from overlapping bracts, the whole arrangement suggesting a parrot's beak. A single seed sits in each flower pod, and the fruit that follows is fleshy and smooth. An indoor tree.
