About this Large Flowering Bougainvillea Bonsai, 18 Years Old (Pink pixie)
18 years of growth have given this 'Pink Pixie' bougainvillea a woody, characterful base at 13 to 15 inches. The genus takes its name from Louis Antoine de Bougainville, the French navigator who lived from 1729 to 1811, and the plants themselves belong to the warmer regions of the Americas, from the tropics into the subtropics. What reads as a flower is in fact a set of leaf bracts at the shoot tips, colouring a brilliant deep pink and thin enough to have earned the plant its paper flower nickname. It likes sun, so indoors the brightest available position is the right one.
