Thirty-one years have shaped this Pink Pixie bougainvillea into a 14 by 13 by 22 inch tree with exposed roots, planted in a 10-inch turquoise-blue fluted round container. The genus is named for the French navigator Louis Antoine de Bougainville, 1729 to 1811, and the species belongs to the tropics and subtropics of the Americas. What appears to be the flower is in fact a set of leaf bracts at the shoot tips, papery in texture and deep pink in colour. It wants sun and warm temperatures the year round.
