About this Trident Maple Bonsai, 18 Years Old (Acer buergerianum)

18 years old, 16" x 18" x 18 Well known for the superb colors of its foliage in autumn (fall). The bark is a dappled pale brown and exfoliates with age revealing a grey orange and brown color. The small leaves (which resist scorching during drought) have 3 short lobes close together - hence the name Tri-dent. This is a living Trident Maple (Acer buergerianum). Before you buy, this is what it will ask of you:

Indoor / outdoor: Outdoor only: requires winter dormancy
Light: Full sun for compact, vigorous growth; tolerates heat better than Acer palmatum
Water: Keep evenly moist; a thirsty, vigorous drinker in summer: water generously but do not waterlog. Slightly to the wet side.
USDA zones: 5 to 9 (commonly cited as ideal around zone 5; vigorous in warmer zones too)
#1 cause of death: Overwatering / root rot; also winter root freeze and verticillium/anthracnose dieback
