About this Trident Maple Bonsai, 15 Years Old (Acer buergerianum)
Acer buergerianum, 15 years old, 10 to 12 inches tall. The leaf is small and cut into three short lobes held close together, which is where the common name comes from, and it stands up to dry spells without scorching at the margins. Autumn colour is the reason most growers keep the species. Bark is a mottled pale brown that flakes away with age to reveal grey, orange and brown beneath. Spring flowers are small and easily missed, while new shoots often break bronze or purple. Deciduous, and grown outdoors.
