Araucaria heterophylla is among the best known trees of the South Pacific, and at 6 years old and 9 to 10 inches tall this one shows the open, airy branch arrangement that distinguishes it. It is a true conifer, cone bearing, with foliage that starts light green and deepens as it matures. Warm rooms suit it, and it takes a degree of dryness without complaint, though glaring direct sun is not to its liking. The planting sits in a combined land and water pot. Care indoors is very straightforward, and the tree takes decoration readily whatever the holiday or time of year.
