12 years have gone into this Pachira aquatica, grown as a stump: one thick trunk of 8 to 10 inches topped by as many as five light green leaves spreading along the crown. Long regarded as a token of luck and a welcome to good fortune, the money tree is the plant most often reached for in feng shui arrangements. In practice it is resilient and asks very little, standing up to dim corners and dry spells far better than most. Water once the soil has dried down, and turn it now and then so the head fills evenly.
