About this Korean Hornbeam Bonsai, 12 Years Old (Carpinus koreana 'Model Rocket')
Carpinus koreana 'Model Rocket' takes its name from its habit, which is upright and narrow, a column rather than a spreading crown. This specimen has 12 years behind it and stands 17 to 18 inches. The obovate, toothed leaves are olive green and exceptionally shiny, carried densely enough to give the tree real substance in leaf, and they color to yellow, orange and red before falling. A deciduous tree for outdoor culture, hornbeam is prized for its fine winter silhouette and its willingness to build ramification under repeated pruning.
