'Golden Joy' is a shimpaku juniper chosen for the strength of its yellow colouring, brighter than that of other golden shimpaku selections and held right through the year rather than fading between seasons. Its form is spreading and compact and its growth slow, so the tree stays small and shapely for many years. This one is 7 years old and 8 to 9 inches tall. Hardy in habit, it is kept outdoors, where cold air and open conditions suit it. Junipers of this kind are shaped mainly by pinching new growth back into the foliage pads.
