About this Golden Hinoki Cypress Bonsai, 7 Years Old (Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Nana Lutea')
Chamecyparis obtusa 'nana lutea' stands as the smallest among the hinoki cypresses and an uncommon evergreen in gardens. Its foliage is golden yellow and held in flat, fan-like sprays, each leaf carrying a blue edge underneath, and the cones it carries are no larger than a pea. It should not be confused with arborvitae, which it superficially resembles. This tree is 7 years old and 7 to 8 inches tall. Hardy by nature, it is kept outdoors through the year, where cool air and open light hold the colour true.

This is a living Hinoki Cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa). Before you buy, this is what it will ask of you:

- Full sun to bright light; needs strong light, but constant foliage maintenance is required so interior gets light

- MOIST (but not wet). Keep slightly and evenly moist; never let it fully dry, and never let it sit waterlogged

- Roughly 4–8; larger trees with more soil tolerate cold better than small specimens in shallow pots
- #1 cause of death
- Phytophthora root rot from waterlogged soil (no cure once established)
