About this Medium Ginseng Ficus Bonsai, 10 Years Old (Ficus retusa)
The ginseng form of Ficus retusa is grown for its swollen, root-like base, and after 10 years this specimen carries that bulbous trunk beneath a 12-inch canopy, with aerial roots showing at the surface. Also called banyan fig or Taiwan ficus, it bears small dark leaves set alternately along the shoots, rounder in outline than those of Ficus benjamina, on bark of grey and reddish tones flecked with short pale horizontal markings. It remains one of the steadier choices for a heated room, tolerating situations that unsettle more delicate species.
