About this Large Ginseng Ficus Bonsai, 15 Years Old (Ficus retusa)
A 15-year-old specimen of Ficus retusa, roughly 15 to 16 inches tall, known also as the banyan fig and the Taiwan ficus. Its leaves are small, dark green and distinctly oval, broader than those of F. benjamina, and set alternately along the shoots. Bark runs grey through to reddish and is speckled with fine horizontal flecks that read almost as tiger striping at close range. Age shows in the heavy trunk and in the aerial roots left exposed at the base. The species ranks among the more tolerant and versatile choices for indoor culture.
