About this Small Flowering Lavender Star Flower Bonsai, 5 Years Old (Grewia occidentalis)
Grewia occidentalis is an evergreen from Africa and Australia, one of some four hundred species in its genus worldwide. This example is 5 years old and 7 to 8 inches tall. Flowers about 1" across open in a purple-mauve tone directly along the stems, with the main display coming at the close of spring and scattered blooms possible at other times of year. It makes a good indoor bonsai, though a position with some sun will do most to encourage flowering.
