Three Grewia occidentalis have been grown on together here as a forest group, each 5 years old, with the planting reaching 9 inches tall. The genus runs to roughly four hundred species between Africa and Australia, and this one holds its leaves through the year. Its 1"-wide flowers are an unusual mauve-purple and are carried along the length of the stems, appearing chiefly as spring ends and sometimes again later. Grown indoors, the group flowers most freely when it can catch a few hours of sun.
