About this Flowering Fruiting European Olive Bonsai, 7 Years Old (Olea europaea 'Little Ollie')

Olea europaea 'Little Ollie' is the common or European olive at reduced scale, and much of its character comes from the contrast between silvery leaves and pale bark. It is 7 years old and 9 to 10 inches tall. Flowers are produced on second year branch growth, so pruning is timed with that in mind, and a winter spell of several weeks held near 35F encourages fruit to set. The olives it bears are the edible kind, the same species pressed for olive oil. In the landscape olives serve as shade trees or are planted out in groves.
