About this Dracena Trunk Bonsai, Braided Trunks, 8 Years Old (Dracaena marginata)
This dracena, called the Madagascar dragon tree after the island it comes from, has been raised as three separate plants whose slim stems were braided together; the braid holds permanently as they thicken with age. 8 years on, the planting reaches 25 to 27 inches, tall enough to suit a floor stand or a broad sill better than a tabletop. Each narrow, sharply pointed leaf is green with a red to purple stripe along the outer edge. Indoors it is undemanding, wanting an even room temperature, indirect light and water only once the soil has partly dried.
