About this Orange Citrus Bonsai, 11 Years Old (Citrus × microcarpa)
11 years old and 19 to 20 inches tall, this calamondin is a genuine citrus grown as bonsai. The leaves are glossy and evergreen, the white flowers strongly and sweetly scented, and because the tree blooms and fruits across the whole year, small oranges no bigger than a golf ball often hang beside open blossom. That fruit is sharp and thoroughly usable, whether in a stir-fry, in a drink, or eaten as it comes. Indoor care is undemanding: the brightest window available, steady watering, and feeding through the growing months.
Calamondin Orange bonsai care
This is a living Calamondin Orange (Citrus × microcarpa). Before you buy, this is what it will ask of you:
- Indoor / outdoor
- Indoor in most climates; outdoors year-round only in frost-free zones (best summered outdoors)
- Light
- Very bright light; full sun preferred, several hours of direct sun daily
- Water
- Keep evenly moist; let the top of the soil dry slightly — never waterlogged, never bone-dry
- USDA zones
- 9–11 (grown indoors elsewhere)
- #1 cause of death
- Insufficient light indoors, causing weak growth, leaf and fruit drop, and decline
Soil, repotting, pruning, seasonal work and the full pest and disease list are in our free Calamondin Orange bonsai care guide.
