About this Small Mistletoe Fig Bonsai, 5 Years Old (Ficus diversifolia)
The genus Ficus runs to more than eight hundred species, of which only a handful will set fruit inside a house; this is one of them. Its oval leaves, marked with tiny brown spots, look remarkably like mistletoe foliage, and pea-sized fruits are carried all year round, though these are inedible. Growth is very slow, which suits a tree of this size and means little correction is called for. The plant is 5 years old and 9 to 10 inches tall, and it does excellently indoors given warmth and reasonable light.
