About this Japanese Blue Beech Bonsai (Fagus japonica)

Ten years of growth have brought this Fagus japonica to 16 or 17 inches, far enough along that the branch structure reads clearly once the leaves have dropped. The Japanese blue beech belongs to the mountain forests of Japan and is grown here for its smooth grey bark and fine, even ramification, which carries autumn colour through gold and russet before winter. Being deciduous it wants a genuine cold season, so keep it outdoors the year round in good light and water as the surface of the mix begins to dry.
