A desktop rock garden built on a black heavy duty plastic base measuring 14.5 by 10.5 inches and standing 1 inch tall, the larger of the two executive sizes and roomy enough to rake broad patterns around the stones. The idea comes from the well known Zen rock garden at Ryoan-ji in Kyoto, Japan, where raked gravel stands in for water and placed rock for islands. Arrange the sand and stones as you please, then smooth it flat and begin again.
