About this Pitch Pine Bonsai, Cascade, 27 Years Old (Pinus rigida)
Pinus rigida trained as a cascade, 27 years old, measuring 14 by 18 by 23 inches tall, with 18 inches from the surface of the soil to the top of the tree. The branches are thick and gnarled and take a pendulous line, twisting as they fall, so the overall form reads as irregular and globular rather than tidy. Bark is scaly and reddish-brown, darkening toward black with the years. Needles emerge stiff and yellow-green before settling to dark green. Keep this pine outdoors.
