About this Bald Cypress Bonsai, 23 Years Old (Taxodium distichum)
Taxodium distichum has been grown here for 23 years and now reaches 26 inches tall with a 14 by 23 inch base. The species is common through the swamps and bottomlands of Florida and Louisiana, and it is the one tree able to grow and thrive standing in water; Louisiana names it the official state tree. Its bark is fibrous and reddish-brown, broken into small flat ridges with shallow furrows between them. The foliage is deciduous. Grow this tree outdoors, where it will accept generous watering.
