Ananas nana comes from South America, and growing one indoors brings a genuine tropical fruit into the house. This medium plant is 6 years old and 14 to 15 inches tall. It wants a great deal of sun and puts up with drought well, though a weekly watering brings on the best fruit. What it produces can be eaten. Once the fruit has ripened and been picked, the leafy crown from the top is replanted into the bonsai pot, so the planting renews itself from its own growth.
