About this Dwarf Hemlock Bonsai, Weeping, 19 Years Old (Tsuga canadensis 'Coles Prostmate')
Tsuga canadensis 'Coles Prostrate' at 19 years, spreading 14 by 22 inches with a height of 13 inches. Dense, overlapping branches hang downward and build into a broad arching mound, so the tree is considerably wider than it is tall. Hemlock is a slow and graceful conifer; its needles resemble those of yew but are smaller and finer. Silver-white bark on the branches shows through the canopy and sets off the dark green foliage. Hardy, and intended to be kept outdoors, this species generally appreciates shelter from the fiercest afternoon sun.
